Dear Esteemed Colleagues,
For years, we, the healthcare professionals of Ethiopia, have tirelessly sought answers and solutions from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the government regarding the systemic challenges undermining our profession and livelihoods. Despite our persistent efforts, our legitimate concerns—particularly those addressing the dire economic instability and soaring inflation—have been met with silence.
Twenty days ago, we submitted a formal list of 12 critical demands, essential not only for our survival but also for the sustainability of the healthcare system we serve. Yet, once again, our voices have been ignored. With only 10 days remaining before the decisive action of a strike, the time has come for us to stand united, resolute, and unwavering in our pursuit of justice.
Why We Must Act Now:
✅Our Rights Deserve Respect – We are not merely employees; we are the backbone of Ethiopia’s healthcare system. Our expertise, dedication, and sacrifices demand recognition and fair treatment.
✅Economic Survival is Non-Negotiable – Inflation has eroded our livelihoods, making it impossible to sustain ourselves and our families. Silence is no longer an option.
✅Exploitation Must End – We refuse to be undervalued while bearing the heaviest burdens of patient care, education, and system leadership.
✅A Unified Voice Brings Change – History has shown that collective action is the most powerful tool to compel accountability and reform.
Our Movement is Just and Necessary:
✔️ This is not political – We are professionals demanding fair working conditions, equitable compensation, and systemic improvements.
✔️ This is legal and peaceful – Our strike is a last resort, exercised within our rights, after exhausting all other avenues.
✔️ This is for everyone – Residents, interns, medical students, Nurses, and senior physicians alike—everyone’s participation is crucial to amplify our impact.
The Time for Change is Now.
We must awaken from complacency and fear. We must reject the notion that we should settle for less than what we rightfully deserve. If we do not fight for our dignity today, who will?
